For students seeking to enroll directly in an international university (as an independent student, outside of FSU's International Programs or Global Exchanges), FSU has a process for students to attend.
FSU students must:
- Identify an experience - Confirm that they accept direct/fee-paying international students and that the student meets eligibility requirements/deadlines.
- Review details regarding the host university - Confirm that the host university is accredited/recognized and will issue an official transcript, as required by FSU for credit transfer.
- Confirm financial aid availability - the student will need to work directly with FSU's Office of Financial Aid to determine if they have eligible financial aid for the direct enroll experience. Please contact: Casey Boyett, Jennifer Sandell, and/or Sherron Sloan to start the process as early as possible. *Please note that some state and federal financial aid awards require transfer credit to be posted to a student's record to ensure the student meets eligibility criteria. Many educational institutions outside the U.S. follow different calendars, and do not award final grades or an official transcript until months after the work has been completed. As such, participating in international study can affect a student's aid eligibility and/or delay the awarding of financial aid in subsequent terms.
- Complete international risk review - submit an International Travel Request (detailed online here: Student Travel), including the high-risk review process if needed.
- Submit the Transient application form (for credit transfer equivalencies) - Complete the Transient Application Form by working with their Academic Advisor and Department/College. The completed form should be on file with the Office of the Registrar before the student's experience begins abroad.
- Submit an official transcript (for credit transfer to FSU) - Transient credit will not be granted without an official transcript from the host university, which should be sent to the Office of Admissions upon completion of the program. If the credit is not being awarded by a U.S. accredited university, the student must also submit an international evaluation from a NACES member.
