What would I be studying?
Students will conduct on-site research and/or enroll in classes on Korean culture, history, society and language.
Classes are offered in English.
Sookmyung offers Korean Language classes and strongly recommends exchange students enroll to enhance their experience in Korea.
How can I study at Sookmyung University as an Exchange Student?
Students enroll and pay Florida State University tuition and fees, and tuition and fees are waived at the host university. All participants must be currently enrolled and degree-seeking students in good standing with all academic credit earned at the host institution being credited to The Florida State University. A student participating in the exchange must be in attendance at The Florida State University for one semester prior to the exchange.
Deadlines
June 30th for admission to Fall Semester, which begins in September of the same year.
December 31st for admission to Spring Semester, which begins in March of the next year.

The Fall semester is September to December. The Spring semester is March to June.
How do I secure a student visa?
Students are responsible for and must possess a valid passport and a D-2 visa from the Korean Embassy or Consulate in their country for their stay in Korea (nearest Korean Embassy or Korean Consul General).
Accommodations- Where would I live? What is the cost of Living?
Sookmyung has graciously offered free housing to The Florida State University students studying at their university. The Sookmyung International House is double occupancy, western style rooms with bed, desk, and closet, private bathroom, shared kitchen, and laundry room, Each room is equipped with an internet connection. If you would prefer living at a private accommodation, please indicate it on your application.

The costs above are calculated for the average person and subject to change according to variations in exchange rates. All students must have sufficient funds to cover their daily expenses during the period they are on the exchange program.
Health Care
In addition to meeting the health insurance requirements for The Florida State University students participating in international exchanges students will need to apply for the National Health Insurance. For foreign students, 30% of the fee can be reduced. The insurance must be pre-paid in three monthly allotments. Students can apply after they get their Alien Registration Card (ID). Minor illness can be treated at Sookmyung University health clinic but hospital and other medical expenses are the sole responsibility of each student.
History
Sookmyung Women’s University began in 1906. During the reign of Emperor Gojong, Empress Sunhen, opened the nation’s first educational institution for women to meet the critical need for women’s education. With a goal of ‘Beyond Women, Toward Leaders, Beyond Korea, Toward the World’, the university has played a leading role in providing a fertile ground for women’s leadership education.
