What would I be studying?
Students will be studying and mastering the Japanese language. Information on Japanese classes for exchange students from Miyagi. Undergraduate students are also required to take several courses in Japanese culture. Qualified students can take classes of their interests. The past example: Modern/Classical Japanese literature, Music Education, and Music Performance. The Florida State University students must complete the 4th semester of Japanese language class.
How can I study at Miyagi University as an Exchange Student?
Students enroll and pay Florida State University tuition and fees, and tuition and fees are waived at the host university. All participants must be currently enrolled and degree-seeking students in good standing with all academic credit earned at the host institution being credited to The Florida State University. A student participating in the exchange must be in attendance at The Florida State University for one semester prior to the exchange.
To participate in this exchange you must be a Japanese Studies major. Students must be fluent in Japanese and pass a Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

How do I secure a student visa?
A “Certificate of Eligibility” will be issued by Japan's Ministry of Justice prior to applying for a visa and is evidence that you fulfill conditions of Japan's Immigration Control Act. Obtain a Study/Cultural Activities visa for Japan which will need to applied for in person at a Japanese Consulate (Miami and Atlanta are the closest).
Accommodations- Where would I live? What is the cost of Living?
There are different options available, including on and off campus housing. Miyagi does not own housing accommodations specially designed for foreign students. But in Sendai City there are three dormitories to accommodate foreign students: Tohoku University International House, AIEJ Sendai Foreign Student House and Sendai International Student House. You may also lease a privately owned apartment or house.
The cost of living in Sendai is typically ¥80,000 a month or ~ $830.

Meeting the health insurance requirements for The Florida State University students participating in international exchanges will ensure that you have met the Miyagi University requirements for health insurance.

Miyagi University of Education (MUE) is a Japanese National University founded in 1873 and charted as a university in 1965. Located in Sendai, Japan graduates work in the field of education and become teachers in all school levels. Many school principles throughout Japan are graduates of MUE. Miyagi University ranks among the 1st tier of leading Japanese schools.
