What would I be studying?

Students will conduct on-site research and/or enroll in classes on political and economic developments in Turkey and the Eurasian Region. Classes are offered in English. A minimum of 4 courses (3 KU credits each) is recommended, the normal workload is 5 courses. Course Catalog.

A Turkish Language & Society (TURK 201) course is offered for non-native speakers each semester. This course is 3 KU credits and 5 contact hours per week. There is no additional fee.

How can I study at Koç University as an Exchange Student?

Students enroll and pay Florida State University tuition and fees, and tuition and fees are waived at the host university. All participants must be currently enrolled and degree-seeking students in good standing with all academic credit earned at the host institution being credited to The Florida State University. A student participating in the exchange must be in attendance at The Florida State University for one semester prior to the exchange.

To participate in this exchange you must be a major in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy.

Deadlines

June 30th for admission to Fall Semester, which begins in late September of the same year.

October 30th for admission to Spring Semester, which begins in mid February of the following year.

The Koç University Exchange Office assigns student mentors to eachKoc incoming exchange student. The mentors play an integral part in introducing students to Koç and to Turkey. They help students understand the life at Koç and assist them in fulfilling the requirements of the program. Mentorship program is highly rated by the incoming students: students have said that “the mentors add value to their lives at Koç and ease their transition.” 

 

 

How do I secure a student visa?

All foreign nationals who will be studying in Turkey are required to have a student visa for the duration of their academic stay. It is the exchange student’s responsibility to apply for a student visa prior to entering Turkey, using the acceptance letter from Koç University. In order to get a student visa, exchange students apply to the Turkish Consulate nearest to their town-of-residence. Please note that it may take up to 8 weeks to get the visa. You may find Consulate information through the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Upon your arrival to KU, you will need to apply for a residence permit. According to the Turkish Government regulations, residence permit application should be submitted within one month of your arrival. Please do not schedule a trip outside of Turkey until your residence permit is taken care of. Please note that if you fail to depart Turkey by the expiration date on the residence permit document, you will have to pay a penalty and will not be admitted back to the country for three months. During the Orientation, you will be guided in how to prepare the paperwork for the residence permit. You will be asked for the following documents: 5 identical photos, residence permit form, student document, passport and application fee.

Accommodations- Where would I live? What is the cost of Living?

A separate housing form is not available for the Incoming Exchange Students. Student housing requests will be addressed in the general application form on the exchange website. If the student chooses on-campus accommodation, the student is guaranteed a double room, with a Turkish roommate, either on the main campus or the west campus. Students are given priority on a first applied, first served basis. Student housing applications are processed by the Dormitory Management, which has exclusive authority in the matter. Exchange students will be informed of their placement upon arrival. Internet, cable-TV and phone-services are available in each room. There are twelve laundry rooms and five kitchens in seventeen dorm buildings, with 7-10 students living on each dormitory floor. On the ground floor of each building, there are computer rooms accessible to all students. Dorm amenities include refrigerator, bed, closet, desk, chair, bed stand, light, pillow and blanket. Students are recommended to bring their own towel, pillow case and sheets

The costs above are calculated for the average person and subject to change according to variations in exchange rates between Dollar and Turkish Lira. *All students must have sufficient funds to cover their daily expenses during the period they are on the exchange program.

Health Care

Meeting the health insurance requirements for The Florida State University students participating in international exchanges will ensure that you have met the Koç University requirements for health insurance.

The Student Health Center is open 24 hours and available to all residents and provides free daily health services and at night emergency diagnostic services. In case of emergency or serious medical attention requiring cases, free transportation to the closest hospital is available 24 hours by the fully equipped university ambulance

Campus LIfe

Koç University started its education 1993, with 233 students and 35 faculty members.Koç University's campus life creates a social environment which gives the students an opportunity for personal growth. 42 social clubs and organizations provide the students to pursue their hobbies or develop new ones. Since half of the student body live on Campus, the social clubs organize different activities during the year. And those commuting students also attend these social activities. Koç University continues to have international students from: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Romania, Syria, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Canada, Faroe Islands, France, India, Italy, Lithuania, Puerto Rico and United States.

Facilities on campus include a swimming pool, tennis courts, squash room, soccer field, fitness center, cafeteria, canteens, cafes, library, hair dresser, full service bank, ATM machines, supermarket, dry cleaning, bookstore, KU store, post office, 24-hour computer labs, IT support, etc.
