What would I be studying?

Students will develop interpersonal and life-long learning skills demonstrating that he/she can function effectively in the multicultural-multilanguage environment by completing a sequence of engineering courses including at least one class in the culture, history literature or language of the region in Jönköping University. Classes are offered in English. Engineering courses and descriptions.

How can I study at Jönköping University as an Exchange Student?

Students enroll and pay Florida State University tuition and fees, and tuition and fees are waived at the host university. All participants must be currently enrolled and degree-seeking students in good standing with all academic credit earned at the host institution being credited to The Florida State University. A student participating in the exchange must be in attendance at The Florida State University for one semester prior to the exchange.

To participate in this exchange you must be an Engineering major.

  1. Contact The Florida State University Mechanical Engineering Academic Advisor for the International Exchange, Dr. Chiang Shih who will direct you through the college's selection process for outgoing reciprocal exchange students at The Florida State University.
  2. Complete the Application for outgoing reciprocal exchange student at The Florida State University, including authorizing signatures.
  3. There will also be a Application process at Jönköping University. Once your application has been evaluated by Jönköping you will receive an acceptance letter.
  4. Once your application has been evaluated by Jönköping you will receive an acceptance letter and a housing form.

Deadlines

The deadlines for registration for Fall semester is May 15 and for Spring semester is November 1.

Academic Calendar

The academic year consists of 40 weeks, divided into two semesters. Each of these two semesters is divided into two 10 week quarters, and full-time study is two courses per quarter, or four courses per semester or eight per year. The autumn semester runs from the middle or end of August to mid January. The spring semester runs from mid January to the beginning of June. There is usually a two-week teaching break at Christmas. There is no break between or during the quarters so international students wishing to travel for more than a weekend in Sweden or Europe should do so either before or after their study period.

How do I secure a student visa?

To enroll in Jönköping University you will need to apply for a resident visa for entering Sweden. If you will be in Sweden for longer than three months you must have a residence permit. The permit must be complete and be entered in your passport before you enter Sweden. To obtain a residence permit for other types of study courses in Sweden you must show that you have been enrolled for full-time study in an organized exchange program and provide details of a contact person at Jönköping. To find the necessary application for a residence permit, please visit the Swedish Migration Board’s Website. Residency can be granted for up to one year, and the visa application process typically takes two months.

All new international students are guaranteed accommodation, provided that they apply for accommodation correctly and announce their arrival in time. The accommodation alternatives that are offered to international students are all located within 25 minutes by public transport from the University.

History

Jönköping University is one of three independent institutions of higher education (not state-owned) in Sweden offering postgraduate programs. The School of Engineering is one of four specialized schools carrying out research and education. The School addresses a portfolio of interlinked topics relating to some of the major issues of our time: internationalization, entrepreneurship, business renewal, innovative learning, a holistic approach to health throughout life, an interface between economy and technology in the information society and production systems for small and medium-sized enterprises.
