Garnet & Gold Scholar Society – undergraduate students only

The Garnet and Gold Scholar Society facilitates involvement and recognizes the engaged, well-rounded undergraduate student who excels within and beyond the classroom in the areas of Leadership, Internship, Service, International, and Research.

Global Citizen Award

The Global Citizen Award is awarded to up to two outstanding students who have been actively engaged in intercultural initiatives and/or who have exemplified leadership in promoting and supporting a global community among Florida State University students.

Global Partner Certificate – graduate students only

This professional development initiative is designed for FSU faculty, staff, and graduate students who are interested in improving their intercultural communication, knowledge, skills, and awareness and becoming more globally competent. The Global Partner Certificate recognizes an individual’s commitment to understanding and appreciating cultural diversity at FSU. 

Global Citizenship Certificate – undergraduate students only

The Global Citizenship Certificate is designed to help undergraduate students maximize the rich cultural learning experiences available for them on campus, in the community and abroad. Through a combination of courses and international and/or intercultural activities students gain invaluable cross-cultural skills and competencies needed to be global-ready graduates. 

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate

The Center for Intensive English Studies offers a 120-hour Certificate program designed to provide an overview of TEFL, including teaching methodologies, student assessment, and practical applications to teaching grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Engage Your World

Engage Your World aims to bring together diverse groups of students, faculty and staff to engage in a conversation about the global challenges we all face today. This event provides space for everyone to engage in a respectful conversation, where differences in opinion are not only encouraged but necessary for a deep and meaningful dialogue.

Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC)

This annual conference challenges future international leaders with teambuilding exercises and sessions on a variety of topics ranging from global leadership, to intercultural communication, to campus activism. 

Global Ambassador Program

The Global Ambassadors Program (GAP) gives international students, faculty, and scholars the opportunity to be cultural ambassadors of their countries. They can engage in speaking opportunities throughout Tallahassee at community organizations, K-12 schools, and FSU classes. The program can enhance international students' resumes, help develop public speaking and presentation skills in English, and allow them to meet new people. 

International Education Week

FSU celebrates this annual recognition of international education with a variety of events that typically include film showings, performances, workshops, discussions, and Going Global--a showcase of students’ international experiences around the world.

Liberal Studies for the 21st Century Curriculum – undergraduate students only

FSU offers over 120 E-series courses designed to foster critical thinking and allow students to compare multiple perspectives on persistent social issues, as well as over 80 Cross-Cultural X-Series courses that help students become culturally conscious participants in a global community through enhancing students' self-understanding and their understanding of the contemporary and complex global context.

Middle East Center

The Middle East Center (MEC)'s main objective is to provide an academic environment for students from a multitude of disciplines to develop a deeper understanding of the Middle East. The MEC also administers FSU's Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies, as well as minors in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies.

Multicultural Leadership Summit

The annual Multicultural Leadership Summit focuses on a foundation of knowledge that will enhance student success in leadership in the areas of multiculturalism and social justice. The goal is to educate students on diversity and multiculturalism and empower them to be agents of social change in an increasingly diverse and global community.

PeaceJam

PeaceJam is an international education program built around Nobel Peace Prize Laureates who work personally with youth to pass on the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody. Their goal is to inspire a new generation of leaders who will transform themselves, their local communities, and the world.

With Words

With Words is a museum-style exhibit developed through the Center for Leadership & Social Change that aims to educate members of the Florida State University and Tallahassee community while connecting them to resources that deal directly with domestic and global social justice issues. Using quality research and multisensory experiences, they seek to inspire compassion for these issues so participants can engage in meaningful conversations to create change.

World Affairs Program

This student-run academic program within the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy promotes an increased awareness of the global community and gives students a social, academic, and competitive outlet in an educational setting.

SOCIAL & CULTURAL PROGRAMS

 

Conversation Partner

Offered through the Center for Intensive English Studies, this program allows international students to practice their English one-on-one and is an opportunity for both U.S. and international partners to learn about each other's culture while building friendships.

English Conversation Club

English Conversation Club invites all levels of speakers of English as a second/other language to meet in a relaxed atmosphere to practice conversational English. FSU students, scholars, and their families are welcome to attend. The group sessions are led by experienced English tutors. 

Global Cafe

Experience cuisine and cultures from around the world at the Center for Global Engagement's featured program held four times per semester. This student-centered program is designed to increase awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity on our campus and provides the opportunity to spend a culturally enriching lunch hour eating authentic food, listening to music, and meeting students from the featured culture. 

Intercultural Program Series

The Intercultural Programs Series offers a way to experience global cultures without having to leave campus. These programs are designed to engage participants in experiential activities significant to the featured country or culture. Participants leave the event having learned more about an aspect of the featured culture through hands-on participation.

International Bazaar

The annual International Bazaar sponsored by the Center for Global Engagement showcases music, dance and food from around the world. The event gives campus and community cultural groups the opportunity to share their history and heritage while giving individuals the opportunity to learn about various cultures and traditions.

International Coffee Hour

Every Friday, international and U.S. students, scholars, and faculty gather for coffee and snacks at the Center for Global Engagement. It's a great place to meet new people from various parts of the world, see old friends, and make plans for the weekend.


STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

 

InternatioNole

InternatioNole brings together international and American students of all majors to learn from, interact with, and have fun with one another through cultural, social, educational, and service activities on and off campus. 

Global Peace Exchange

Global Peace Exchange (GPE) is a non-profit student-run international development organization that establishes relationships with non-governmental organizations in developing countries to allow students the opportunity to work on sustainable development projects in the summer on a grassroots level.

Peace Corps PREP 

Peace Corps Prep is an academic-partnered certificate program that assists in building the skills you need to have a positive impact as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Upon completion of the certificate program, you will receive a certificate from the Peace Corps and invaluable insight when applying for Peace Corps service.
